Hi, thank you for your message and for sharing your travel plans.

It’s possible to visit Mount Tambora by motorbike and explore the area at your own pace, even without doing the full long trek. You can ride up to Pancasila Village, which is the main access point to the mountain, and continue by motorbike until Pintu Rimba (the forest gate). From there, the trail continues only on foot — 4WD vehicles are not available on this route.

Reaching the crater rim would require several days of trekking and overnight stays, especially if you prefer shorter walking durations each day. However, as long as you have a local guide and proper logistics (porters, camping gear, and food supplies), it’s safe and manageable with a slower pace.

There are also simple guesthouses around Pancasila if you’d like to stay overnight, along with small coffee plantations nearby and interesting traces of Dutch colonial history in the lower villages.

It’s a great idea for a more relaxed exploration of Tambora while still experiencing its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

I want to come by motorbike to mount Tambora from bali. I live in Tegallalang, 73 years old, fit. I want if possible walk to the caldera but cannot do walks from 5 or 6 hours per day. 2 hours must be possible. Is there an option to go to a village...?, park the motorbike and go with a guide and transport to do a specific trekking.???
Please let me know.
I also can stay 1 or 2 days extra somewhere on the mountain. Also interested in coffee plantations and old history of the Dutch at tambora.
Please let me know.
