Sailing Routes
Routes & Destinations by Duration
The longer you sail, the deeper you explore Komodo National Park. Here’s a quick overview:
| Duration | Destinations | What makes it special |
|---|---|---|
| 2D1N — 7 spots | Kelor Island, Manjarite, Kalong Island, Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point | Short and efficient: thousands of flying foxes taking off at sunset, sunrise trek on Padar |
| 3D2N — 9 spots | Everything in 2D1N + Taka Makassar, Sebayur Island | The most balanced choice, with more relaxed snorkeling time |
| 4D3N — 13 spots | The 2D1N route + Taka Makassar, Rangko Cave, Bird Island, Kanawa Island, Siaba Island (Turtle Point), Strawberry Rock | The complete journey: swim in Rangko Cave’s turquoise pool, meet turtles at Siaba’s “Turtle City” |
Every package starts with a 10.00 pick-up at your hotel or Komodo Airport and ends with a drop-off back in Labuan Bajo. For 3D2N and 4D3N, which finish around 12.00, book your return flight after 13.00 (GMT+8) on the last day; the 2D1N trip returns around 17.30–18.00, so plan an evening flight or stay one more night. Manta sightings are never guaranteed as they are wild animals, and itineraries may change depending on weather conditions and National Park regulations.
Boat Classes
Boat Classes: Superior, Deluxe, or Luxury?
Every package is available on three classes of phinisi boat. The route stays the same — the difference is comfort on board:
| Superior | Deluxe / VIP | Luxury / VVIP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private bathroom | Some cabins | Most cabins | All cabins |
| Jacuzzi | No | Some boats | Almost always |
| Privacy | Low–medium | Good | Very high |
| Best for | Budget travelers / relaxed groups | Families / small groups — the most popular | Exclusive honeymoons / executive trips |
In short: budget & fun — Superior; comfort & balance — Deluxe; exclusive & luxurious — Luxury. Boat lists and prices per class are detailed on each package page, and you can read the full comparison in our article Difference Between Superior, Deluxe & Luxury Phinisi Boats.
Best Time
Best Time to Sail Komodo
The dry season from April to October is the best time to sail: sunny weather, calmer seas, and comfortable trekking. Water visibility is at its best from May to September, while June to October offers the best chance to see manta rays. Note that June–August and the Christmas–New Year period are high season — boats sell out quickly and prices are higher, so book 1–2 months in advance.
Trips still operate in the rainy season (November–March) with adjusted routes for safety; in return you get lush green islands, fewer tourists, and more flexible pricing. If you can choose freely, aim for May, early June, or September — our crew’s favorite months. Read the month-by-month breakdown in our article Best Time to Visit Labuan Bajo.
Good to Know
Costs Outside the Package & Practical Tips
Official Komodo National Park entrance fees may change following the latest regulations — see the current breakdown in our article Labuan Bajo Trip Cost: Complete 3D2N Budget. Drone permits are arranged and paid separately to the National Park office, and not every spot allows drones.
Practical tips from our team: arrive in Labuan Bajo one day before your sailing date, and bring enough cash — ATMs are only available in Labuan Bajo town, while park fees and personal expenses at sea are paid in cash. For packing, prioritize reef-safe sunscreen, comfortable sandals or trekking shoes for Padar’s rocky trails, a dry bag, and soft luggage instead of hard-shell suitcases — cabin space on boats is limited.
