This Whale Shark Tour Sumbawa package was designed in response to the many requests for trips starting from Poto Tano Port or nearby hotels.
We understand the difficulty of finding public transportation from Poto Tano to Labuan Jambu Village, which is why we have organized this tour.
Whale sharks, located in the Saleh Bay area of Sumbawa, can usually be spotted around 6 AM when fishermen using bagang boats lift their nets at that time.
Typically, groups of whale sharks appear because, along with the lifting of the nets, a lot of plankton is brought up, which these whale sharks love.

Whale Shark Tour FAQ
When is the best time to see Whale Sharks?
Whale sharks in Teluk Saleh, Sumbawa, typically appear from April to November, when the sea is calm, the water is clear, and the weather is ideal for snorkeling or diving. Their presence coincides with the season of small fish and plankton, their main food source.
It is advisable to avoid visiting between January and March due to unstable weather, large waves, and strong currents, which often keep local fishermen from going to sea. However, visits are still possible with a confirmation two days in advance, depending on weather conditions.
Can i touch the Whale Sharks?
No. Amongst other reasons, it is a protected marine species and its skin is covered in a sensitive mucus membrane and should not be touched (thank you!)
Can i snorkel?
Yes. This is the best way to interact with this amazing animal
What equipment do i need?
We provide all the equipment you need (snorkel, mask and fins), but feel free to bring your own
We also suggest bringing ear plugs because of the loud sound of the boat’s engine that will be used to go to the Whale Shark location (tourism is not yet developed so that the facilities and infrastructure are still quite minimal)
Is there an age limit?
This Excursion is for families and children over 6 years old. Children must be able to swim/ snorkel
