Taman Narmada Lombok was built in 1727 by the King of Mataram Lombok, Anak Agung Ngurah Karang Asem. Centuries later, the garden is still a busy destination, especially during the holiday season.
Where to Find Taman Narmada
The garden sits in Lembuak Village, Narmada District, West Lombok, about 10 km from Mataram City, the capital of NTB province. The short distance makes it easy to reach, especially if you enjoy history and cultural sights.
The History and Purpose of Taman Narmada
Taman Narmada was originally used by the royal family for the Mulang Pekelem ceremony (an annual Hindu ritual) and as a place to rest. Back then it was a deeply sacred and exclusive site, off limits to ordinary people.

Size and Facilities
Taman Narmada covers about two hectares, so save some energy if you plan to walk the whole thing. Flights of steps link one part of the garden to the next.

If you are curious about the history behind them, each building has a green information board giving its name and what it was once used for.
The Spring of Eternal Youth
The garden also has a spring believed to keep you young. It is the meeting point of three water sources, from Suranadi, Lingsar and Narmada, all flowing straight down from Mount Rinjani. Plenty of visitors drink from it and wash their faces here, hoping for the same benefit.

A Unique Photo Spot
Lately, Taman Paresak behind the main garden, past the mangosteen orchard, has become a favorite photo spot for younger visitors. Standing there is a long, unusual water pipe left over from the Dutch era. At first glance you would never guess it is an old water pipe.
