Pandanan Beach is one of the most charming destinations on Lombok Island. Back in the 90s, Senggigi Beach was the face of tourism here; these days plenty of other beaches are every bit as striking.

From west to east and north to south, beaches such as Pink Beach Tangsi, Mawun Beach, Mandalika Kuta Beach, Seger Beach and Selong Belanak Beach all wait to be enjoyed. Among that line-up, Pandanan Beach has a character of its own that is well worth a look.
Location and Routes to Pandanan Beach

Pandanan Beach falls under North Lombok Regency, though geographically it sits on the western side of the island. Coming from the centre of Mataram, you have two possible routes:
Main route:
Mataram – Ampenan – Montong – Senggigi – Malimbu – Nipah – Pandanan
Alternative route:
Mataram – Gunung Sari – Pusuk – Perempatan Bangsal – Kecinan – Pandanan
The drive from Mataram to Pandanan Beach takes about an hour, and it passes quickly because the scenery along the way is beautiful the whole time.
What Makes Pandanan Beach Special

Pandanan Beach has a wonderful setting: a stretch of clean white sand, green hills and rows of coconut palms along the shore. Unlike most beaches on Lombok’s west coast, which usually have brown sand, the sand at Pandanan is soft and white, which adds a lot to its appeal.
The shoreline slopes gently and the water stays calm, which makes it an easy beach for families. Swimming, playing in the water or just lazing on the sand all suit this place perfectly.
From Pandanan Beach you can even make out the iconic Gili Trawangan in the distance. That view gives the whole place an extra something you will remember long after you leave.

Where to Eat at Pandanan Beach

A trip to Pandanan Beach is not only easy on the eyes, it is good for the appetite too. All along the shore you will find traditional warung (small local eateries) serving grilled fish straight from the sea.
Dishes worth ordering:
- Ikan Bakar (grilled fish): Fresh from the sea and grilled with delicious local spices.
- Terong Bakar (grilled aubergine): Served with a hot sambal that gets the appetite going.
- Sayur Daun Kelor (moringa leaf soup): A perfect match for warm rice and everything else on the table.
You pick the fish you fancy and eat it in a berugak (a traditional open-sided pavilion) looking straight out over the water. Good food in a lush beach setting is what turns a nice day out into a great one.

Conclusion
A visit to Pandanan Beach is about more than the scenery. It is also a chance to taste authentic Lombok cooking. An enjoyable drive, views that are easy on the eyes and delicious food add up to a day you will not forget.
