Once in a lifetime! Whaleshark Adventure Absolutely unforgettable experience! 🐋 The whole trip was really well organized, and swimming with the whale sharks was something truly special. Seeing these incredible gentle giants up close in their natural habitat was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Definitely worth the early morning, the long journey and every minute of it! Whale Sharks of Saleh Bay It was a dream come true for me! As we were staying at a hotel in the east of Lombok, I came across the 2-day/1-night package with the help of AI! Communication was consistently professional, prompt and hassle-free! Our driver, Firmann, picked us up from the hotel right on time! He was with us for the full two days, from start to finish! He drove us safely to the harbour in Lombok, where we took the car onto the ferry! The crossing took about two hours. In high spirits and driving safely, he drove us to Sumbawa Besar – a journey of over four hours – found us a delicious warung along the way, picked up our guide, and off we went to our hotel! Here too, both guides acted as interpreters for us and were always up for a bit of fun! Our room was at the back, very quiet, with a soft bed! By 4 o’clock we were back at the harbour and took a boat out towards the traditional fishing boats! We’d brought pillows and blankets for another little nap! And hot drinks too! When we arrived, the peaceful giants were already there! We spent a full three hours in the water with them – absolutely breathtaking!! A thousand thanks also to our guide ‘Tina Turner’ for the brilliant photos of the whale sharks and us! For me, after five years, a huge dream has come true! Breakfast was plentiful! The return journey went smoothly too! The lads found a suitable warung for us here as well, and we were even able to do some souvenir shopping! The BEST time in Sumbawa We had an amazing time with The Langkah Travel. We were a family of 4 and chose the 4D3N Sumbawa tour package. Pak YAN was an excellent guide, very resourceful, insightful and knowledgeable. He was also very passionate in wildlife conservation (corals, whale sharks). From our incredibly friendly driver, Kahfi, to our wonderful tour operator, Jaffa (I’m so sorry if I got your name wrong!), the entire experience was amazing from beginning to end. We were lucky enough to see four whale sharks swimming in their natural habitat, and it was honestly breathtaking. 🐋🦈 Seeing these magnificent, gentle creatures up close is something we will never forget. What impressed us just as much was how conscious the team was about protecting the whale sharks and conserving their natural habitat. You could really feel the respect they have for these beautiful animals and the environment they live in, which made the experience even more special. Un grande applauso ad Adu, nostra guida in Lombok, sempre sorridente e disponibile, nn da meno Syaf in Sumbawa, presente in tutto, e pronto ad accogliere nostre richieste e ottimo underwater cameramen. Li abbiamo conosciuti come accompagnatori e li lasciamo come amici. Fantastic Travel Agency April 2026. In these days we took 6 tours and various transfers, everything perfect and punctual, the best Gili Bitara and Kapal, Tiu Kelep Waterfall, Moio Island with Waterfall, and Whale Sharks. A big round of applause to Adu, our guide in Lombok, always smiling and helpful, no less so to Syaf in Sumbawa, present in everything, ready to accommodate our requests and excellent underwater cameramen. We got to know them as guides and we leave them as friends. Last but not least, Ari who organized everything for us via WhatsApp, accommodating our requests, drawing up a perfect tour plan. Whale Shark Tour We did the 2D1N private whale shark tour from Lombok. Overall the tour was great. Our driver/tour guide, Mas Mizan is amazing. He is really friendly and knowledgeable. Other than the whale shark tour, he also brought us to try the local foods in Sumbawa which we appreciate a lot. Our boat/sail guide, pak Sap, was also really good and wonderful. He knows the way around the bay and really make sure we see the whale shark and also take great photos of us underwater with the whale shark Overall everything went well and they are such professional tour guides! I had an absolutely fantastic whale shark tour! Karim drove us safely every step of the way, making me feel completely at ease, and Syaf’s guidance was incredible—knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Seeing these majestic creatures up close was truly awe-inspiring! Even the 12-hour car and ferry ride was worth it for such a unique experience. It would be amazing if the tour included more information about the whale sharks themselves—their behavior and endangered status—because that would have made the experience even more meaningful. Wij hebben de tour geboekt om vanuit Lombok naar Sumbawa te reizen om te snorkelen met de walvishaaien. Het is een erg lange rit die onderbroken word door de veerboot. Maar dat is het zeker waard! Ihwan was onze driver/gids en heeft ons opgehaald in Singiggi. In Kuta hebben we nog iemand opgehaald en van daaruit naar Sumbawa. Ihwan is een zeer prettige driver/gids! We hebben een gezellige rit gehad. Zelf houden wij erg van dieren spotten in hun natuurlijke omgeving. Dikke 10 voor The Langkah Travel, ze doen er alles aan om je een unieke ervaring te geven. Ze houden ook contact met de vissersboten van te voren, zodat je niet met 100 anderen in het water ligt. En gaan dus naar een vissersboot waar het rustig is en waar er whalesharks zijn, het blijft natuurlijk natuur dus het kan ook altijd dat je ze niet ziet of maar kort. Wij hebben 2 uur met ze mogen snorkelen, ze bleven om ons heen zwemmen. In het begin waren we met 3 anderen in het water en later toen wij bijna weg gingen kwam er nog anderen snorkelen. Whalesharks Salah Bey 😍😍😍! We booked the tour to travel from Lombok to Sumbawa to snorkel with the whale sharks. It is a very long ride that is interrupted by the ferry. But it's definitely worth it! Ihwan was our driver/guide and picked us up in Singiggi. In Kuta we picked up someone else and from there to Sumbawa. Ihwan is a very pleasant driver/guide! We had a nice ride. We ourselves love spotting animals in their natural environment. Big 10 for The Langkah Travel, they do everything to give you a unique experience. They also keep in touch with the fishing boats in advance, so you are not in the water with 100 others. And so go to a fishing boat where it is quiet and where there are whalesharks, it is of course nature so it is always possible that you do not see them or only briefly. We were allowed to snorkel with them for 2 hours, they kept swimming around us. In the beginning we were with 3 others in the water and later when we almost left there were others snorkeling. The Mojo trip and whaleshark trip was perfect, our guide Syaf was more than we could imagine. We went to two snorkeling sites and to Mata Jitu waterfall, and then the next day to whaleshark trip. Also got a lot of photos during the trip. Because of the hospitality of the locals we tried a lot of local dishes and ate one of the best fish in our life! We did a 5 days Tour with langkah travel crossing Sumbawa from east to West. We were two families with 5 children. We just had a wonderful time, Sumbawa is such a beautiful Island with incredibly friendly people and stunning landscapes! The whaleshark experience was awesome, we spent more thane one hour in the water with those friendly giants. And our trips to Satonda and Moyo island were really cool. Our guide Syaf was extremely friendly and helpful and explained us a lot about local culture, people, languages, customs, plants, animals, politics,... 2D1N Whale Shark trip to Sumbawa I booked this trip with my daughter who is 14. The arrangements were straightforward via WhatsApp and Ari provided good communication. The company were flexible with pick up and drop off location. The trip was well-organised and good value for money. Our driver and guide was Iwan. He was truly exceptional. He spoke excellent English and was very kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Iwan guided us perfectly and was able to make sure we had everything we needed. When we finally arrived at Saleh Bay (it is a VERY long journey!) Iwan made sure we were comfortable on our boat ready for the journey to see the sharks. We were there first, and able to spend beautiful time in the ocean alone with a huge whale shark, just me, Iwan, my daughter and the shark. We had our own equipment, but Iwan also took footage on his GoPro which he was happy to share later. When finished, we went back to our hotel to shower and change before completing the return journey. All in all, I would highly recommend this trip. It does take a long time to get there, but Sumbawa is very different to Lombok or Bali, much less developed, so it was really interesting to see some of this island. Whale Shark Tour - 100% recommended Absolutely enjoyed this trip. Everything was organised so well and the team was so friendly. We did a private 2D1N tour to Sumbawa from Lombok. We saw 3 whale sharks and snorkeled for 2 hours with them. The GoPro videos that were included in the price were very professional. All in all a long but extremely worth while trip. The most amazing experience with whale sharks We used Langkah travel for the Whale Sharks tour. We had the most amazing experience. There were 8 of us in our group and everyone was well cared for. The staff is very professional and respectful of the animals. Syaf and Ramly are an exceptional team. We learned a lot about preservation. We saw 3 whale sharks and were given plenty of time to spend with them in the water. The equipment was provided and good quality. Sumbawa Open Trip 4D3N Review Had a fantastic time in Sumbawa, thanks to The Langkah Travel 😊 The itinerary was well thought, and well executed. Car was spotless, and the ride was very smooth! We used Innova for the trip. Sumbawa is perfect for a road trip: smooth and wide roads! We have our wonderful guide, Akbar, who drove us around and Syaf, who make sure we didn't drown :D The Langkah Travel ensured that we had the best experience during our excursion in Sumbawa: we were pampered with tasty cuisine in (mostly fresh seafood!), we stayed in nice hotels, our schedule was straight on time, and we were very lucky to run into 5 whale sharks in Teluk Saleh!! Just incredible.... There were 6 of us, after long exchanges with the company we had chosen a 2D,1N excursion from Lombok to Sumbawa to observe whale sharks. Everything was extremely well organized and punctual. Thank you to our driver Handra for his kindness and patience. He dropped us off at two different places on the way back (2 people in Selong Belanak and 4 people in Bangsal). And to talk about whale sharks... what can I say? This is the most wonderful experience we have had. We were so lucky to be the only people at sea (really there were only us). We were able to observe 3 whale sharks at sunrise, with a rainbow in the background. The weather, the children on the fishing boat, the water, the guides who filmed us underwater. Everything was perfect. We had taken the time to stay 1h30 in the water so that everyone would go at their own pace in order to approach them ethnically and safely 🙏🏽 I can only recommend this professional agency. Amazing experience In Sumbawa, well organized snorkeling with beautiful corral, prettier than Bali, swimming with whale shark was unforgettable. Ask for Syaf, he is the best guide and really involved in the local community to protect both corral and whale shark through his associations. he will make you swim with the whale shark with care and you will learn so much from these incredible creatures. Don’t go with the big boats tour company, there are not respectful, we saw 50 people in the water, trying to touch the animal (which is dangerous for them) it’s was disgusting > photo 2 So if you are looking for a local and sustainable experience pick this agency and ask Syaf ! We went on the 2D1N Whale Shark trip from Lombok to Sumbawa. We had an amazing time. It was an unforgettable experience swimming with 3 different whale sharks. Mr. Hendra was such a friendly and experienced driver. We enjoyed our time with him and he was very considerate making sure we were always ok throughout the trip. We also had a great experience with Mr Syaf, our local snorkeling guide in Sumbawa.  He made sure to take us to a spot that wasn't too crowded. My experience was amazing, I didn't expect to see something so incredible in my life. Very cute and sensible animals, so it is a must to follow your guide instructions and don't touch or hits whalesharks with your diving and while snorkeling with them!!! Saat jaring diangkat di pagi hari, sebagian plankton dan ikan kecil itu lolos ke perairan sekitar, dan inilah saat hiu paus berkumpul untuk makan.

Pola ini membuat hiu paus di Teluk Saleh bisa terlihat sepanjang tahun, sesuatu yang jarang terjadi di destinasi hiu paus lain. Sejak tahun 2018, Conservation International Indonesia bersama nelayan setempat mulai mengembangkan kawasan ini sebagai lokasi ekowisata berbasis masyarakat, dengan aturan interaksi yang ketat untuk melindungi populasi hiu paus.

8+ Tahun Kami Pegang Paket Ini di Lapangan

The Langkah Travel berdiri tahun 2012, dan paket hiu paus Sumbawa adalah salah satu produk yang paling konsisten kami operasikan sejak tahun 2018. Tiap tahun, tim kami rata-rata mengantar lebih dari 100 program tour ke Teluk Saleh.

Dari ratusan program itu, tingkat keberhasilan tamu bertemu hiu paus di atas 95%. Kami tidak pernah menjanjikan 100%, karena faktor alam tidak bisa dikendalikan. Tapi angka 95%+ menunjukkan bahwa dengan timing yang tepat, koordinasi langsung dengan kru bagan, dan pemilihan titik yang sudah kami petakan selama bertahun-tahun, peluang Anda sangat besar.

Tim lapangan kami terdiri dari guide lokal yang sudah hafal jam berapa nelayan biasanya mengangkat jaring, bagan mana yang sering didatangi hiu paus di musim tertentu, dan bagaimana mengkomunikasikan kebutuhan tamu ke kru perahu. Hal-hal kecil seperti ini sering jadi pembeda antara pengalaman yang berkesan dan yang biasa saja.

Apa yang Akan Anda Alami Selama Tour

Detail itinerary berbeda sedikit tergantung paket yang Anda pilih, tapi inti pengalamannya kurang lebih sama.

Penjemputan dini hari

Untuk paket dari Sumbawa Besar, penjemputan biasanya pukul 02.00 dini hari. Untuk yang menginap di Labuan Jambu, sekitar 03.30–04.00. Jam ini terdengar tidak ramah, tapi ada alasannya: hiu paus paling banyak muncul saat nelayan mulai mengangkat jaring sekitar pukul 06.00, dan perjalanan dari desa ke titik bagan butuh waktu sekitar 2 jam dengan perahu.

Perjalanan menuju bagan nelayan

Dari Labuan Jambu, Anda naik perahu lokal (begoq) atau speed boat menuju kawasan bagan di Teluk Saleh. Perjalanan biasanya tenang karena ini masih pagi sekali, dan langit perlahan terbuka saat Anda mendekati lokasi.

Setibanya di area bagan, kru kami mencari bagan yang sudah didatangi hiu paus pagi itu. Tidak semua bagan punya hiu paus pada hari yang sama, jadi proses pencarian ini bagian dari pengalamannya. Saat titik yang tepat ketemu, Anda masuk ke air dengan tenang dan menjaga jarak aman seperti briefing sebelumnya.

Sarapan di atas perahu & perjalanan pulang

Sekitar pukul 08.00, sarapan ringan disajikan di atas perahu — biasanya roti, kopi atau teh, dan buah segar. Perjalanan pulang ke Labuan Jambu dilanjutkan setelah itu, dan Anda akan tiba kembali di hotel atau titik akhir sekitar siang.

Tips dari Guide Lokal Kami Sebelum Berangkat

Bagian ini tidak akan Anda temukan di brosur resmi. Ini kumpulan catatan tim kami setelah handle ratusan program di Teluk Saleh.

Periode Terbaik (April–November) & yang Sebaiknya Dihindari

Hiu paus memang muncul sepanjang tahun, tapi periode April hingga November adalah waktu paling ideal. Laut lebih tenang, air lebih jernih, dan nelayan bagan rutin beroperasi.

Bulan Januari hingga Maret sebaiknya dihindari kalau jadwal Anda fleksibel. Cuaca sering tidak menentu, ombak bisa cukup besar, dan banyak nelayan bagan berhenti melaut sehingga peluang ketemu hiu paus mengecil. Kami tetap bisa menjalankan tour di periode ini, tapi konfirmasi biasanya kami lakukan H-2 sesuai kondisi laut.

Apa yang Wajib Dibawa

• Jaket tipis untuk perjalanan dini hari yang dingin
• Tabir surya tahan air dengan SPF tinggi
• Kacamata hitam
• Penyumbat telinga atau kapas — mesin perahu nelayan tradisional cukup berisik untuk perjalanan 2 jam
• Action cam atau kamera tahan air kalau punya. Tim kami juga membawa GoPro untuk dokumentasi tambahan
• Pakaian renang dan kaos ekstra untuk ganti

Etika Berinteraksi dengan Hiu Paus

Hiu paus adalah spesies yang dilindungi, dan ada protokol ketat yang wajib diikuti:

• Jaga jarak minimal 3 meter. Kibasan ekor mereka bertenaga dan bisa berbahaya kalau Anda terlalu dekat.
• Jangan menyentuh. Bukan karena mereka galak, tapi kulit mereka berlapis lendir sensitif yang penting untuk kesehatan mereka. Sisik plakoid mereka juga cukup kasar dan bisa menggores kulit.
• Matikan flash kamera. Cahaya tiba-tiba bisa mengejutkan dan mengubah perilaku mereka.
• Masuk air dengan tenang, kaki dulu. Jangan melompat dari perahu — suara dan getaran besar bisa membuat hiu paus menjauh.
• Ikuti arahan guide. Selalu.

Kondisi Lapangan yang Perlu Anda Tahu

Kami lebih suka tamu datang dengan ekspektasi yang realistis. Beberapa hal yang perlu dipertimbangkan:

• Perahu nelayan tradisional di Teluk Saleh bersifat terbuka tanpa kabin tertutup. Siapkan perlindungan matahari dan baju hangat untuk pagi.
• Fasilitas di Labuan Jambu masih sederhana. Penginapan ada, tapi level homestay, bukan hotel berbintang.
• Sinyal seluler bisa lemah di kawasan teluk. Beri tahu keluarga sebelum berangkat.
• Walaupun tingkat keberhasilan kami di atas 95%, tetap ada kemungkinan kecil hiu paus tidak muncul. Kalau itu terjadi, tim kami akan komunikasikan opsi pengembalian sebagian biaya atau penjadwalan ulang.

Cara Menuju Sumbawa & Teluk Saleh

Via Udara (Bandara Sultan Muhammad Kaharuddin III, SWQ)

Cara paling cepat. Bandara SWQ di Sumbawa Besar terhubung dengan beberapa penerbangan dari Lombok, Bali, dan Surabaya. Setelah mendarat, perjalanan darat ke Desa Labuan Jambu memakan waktu sekitar 3 jam. Kami biasanya jemput Anda dini hari langsung dari hotel di Sumbawa Besar.

Via Lombok (Ferry Kayangan – Poto Tano)

Untuk yang sudah berada di Lombok atau ingin menggabungkan trip dengan eksplorasi Lombok dulu. Naik ferry dari Pelabuhan Kayangan (Lombok Timur) ke Pelabuhan Poto Tano (Sumbawa Barat). Penyeberangan butuh sekitar 2 jam. Dari Poto Tano, perjalanan darat ke Labuan Jambu lewat Sumbawa Besar memakan waktu sekitar 5 jam.

Kalau Anda memilih jalur ini, paket 2D1N start dari Poto Tano atau Lombok jadi pilihan paling masuk akal — tidak perlu memaksakan rute panjang dalam satu hari.

Mengenal Hiu Paus (Rhincodon typus)

Hiu paus adalah ikan terbesar di dunia, bukan paus seperti namanya. Mereka bisa tumbuh hingga 12 meter dan beratnya mencapai 20 ton, tapi makanannya hanya plankton dan ikan kecil yang disaring lewat mulut lebar mereka. Karena itulah mereka aman didekati manusia. Kita tidak masuk dalam menu mereka.

Pola titik putih di tubuh mereka unik untuk tiap individu, mirip sidik jari pada manusia. Ilmuwan memakai pola ini untuk identifikasi hiu paus tertentu di seluruh dunia.

Status konservasi mereka di IUCN Red List adalah Endangered (terancam punah). Itulah alasan kenapa interaksi dengan hiu paus diatur ketat di Indonesia, termasuk di Teluk Saleh.
